Education QLDÂ introduces Hillcrest Primary School in Hillcrest, for all your education and learning needs.
The first day of school at Hillcrest was on the 15th September, 1953. The school was opened to serve the large influx of students expected from the housing development nearby. Children came from all over Adelaide including schools such as Challa Gardens, Richmond, Flinders Street and even Victor Harbor. Most of the students however, transferred from Payneham Primary. The first girl enrolled was Elizabeth Mann and the first boy was Keith Hale. The first Headmaster of the school was Victor Slee who was transferred from Forest School near Lenswood.
The school opened in timber transportable buildings and the two storey building was constructed in the mid 1960′s. Community members who send their children to the school are pleased to be associated with it. In many cases, we now have the children of previous students attending, which helps to build on a tradition of over 60 years of quality education.
Hillcrest Primary School is an excellent place to be and prides itself on a calm and caring atmosphere where academic, personal, artistic and sporting progress is encouraged in all children. It has large, spacious grounds and recently renovated, functional buildings. Early in 2008, a large re-development of the playground facilities including a fitness track was completed. The school has daily access to the Hillcrest Community Centre gymnasium facilities and a close relationship with Community Centre staff through the Breakfast Club and our beautiful community garden. We use the hall for physical education lessons, drama productions and school assemblies.
Parents and other community members are involved in the school through the Governing Council, fund raising, sporting activities and volunteering. Student voice operates in the school in the form of the Student Executive Group and various student action projects. The school believes strongly that its prime reason for existence is to serve the learning needs of its children, but it is also a place for all the community to benefit.
Welcome to Hillcrest Primary School one of the popular educators in your Hillcrest area. Our aim is help you in your learning journey.
We endeavour to celebrate each other’s uniqueness by providing opportunity for all and to develop a culture that identifies that the journey towards excellence is often paved with trial and error, risk taking, learning from mistakes, flexibility and adaptability. We believe that encouraging students to take ownership of the learning is critical in achieving the best learning outcomes and that implicit in this concept is that students learn their own areas of strength and areas of development, through useful and explicit feedback.
