Education QLDÂ introduces Hamilton Island State School in Hamilton Island, for all your education and learning needs.
Hamilton Island State School is located on beautiful, tropical Hamilton Island in the Whitsunday group, north-east of Mackay and twenty kilometres from mainland Australia. The island has an airport with direct flights to Cairns, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide.
Hamilton Island State School was established in 1986. The student population has fluctuated over the years from a low of 15 to a high of 58. A considerable number of students stay less than two years due to the transient nature of work on a holiday island. Hamilton Island Enterprise is the major employer but many school families own, or operate businesses.
The school caters for students from Prep to Year 7. A multi-age teaching philosophy is used to deliver the curriculum. Special Needs providers service the school from the mainland. Japanese is taught for LOTE. HPE and music are catered for on-island.
The school and island communities are very supportive of the school and its staff.
Particular features of the school include close proximity to resort sporting facilities such as the staff swimming pool and resort sport centre. Although the school grounds are small and on a steep hill, an undercover shade area, gives the students an adequate protected area while playing outdoors.
Welcome to Hamilton Island State School one of the popular educators in your Hamilton Island area. Our aim is help you in your learning journey.
We endeavour to celebrate each other’s uniqueness by providing opportunity for all and to develop a culture that identifies that the journey towards excellence is often paved with trial and error, risk taking, learning from mistakes, flexibility and adaptability. We believe that encouraging students to take ownership of the learning is critical in achieving the best learning outcomes and that implicit in this concept is that students learn their own areas of strength and areas of development, through useful and explicit feedback.
