Marsden Road Public School was established in 1962 and serves a diverse community with a current enrolment of 632 students, 546 of whom come from a language background other than English. The school is proud of its varied multicultural population and its knowledge and understanding of the 60 cultural backgrounds of our students and their families. Approximately twenty percent of our total student enrolment is made up of refugees from war-torn countries, often with little or no English language exposure or formal schooling. Approximately 67% of these students have been speaking English for 3 years or less. These students are supported by additional staffing from the Multicultural Programs Unit. Our dedicated teachers, varied in their experience, work collaboratively to develop and implement engaging teaching and learning programs that cater to the needs of all students. Supported by a committed administrative team, quality learning programs are provided for all students within a positive and safe learning environment. Following three years of continual building projects, a new school has emerged. Rewarding the flexibility and adaptability of both staff and students, we now have 21st century facilities to be enjoyed by all. As a National Partnerships school: Literacy & Numeracy (2010-2011) and Low Socio Economic Communities (2012-2014), great changes to pedagogy has enabled primacy be given to equipping students with the foundational skills necessary for lifelong learning in literacy and numeracy. Streamlining of school events and meaningful integration of the Key Learning Areas has ensured that students have access to enrichment and extracurricular activities including choir, dance, drama, sport, debating and public speaking.
